Workforce Investment Act

The purpose of the Workforce Investment Act is to prepare youth, adults, and dislocated workers for entry into the labor force.

There are several types of services available through WIA. These services include:

Applicant Services- consists of informing individuals about WIA and screening to determine if they are eligible for and can benefit from the program.

Employment and Training Services- including, but not limited to, orientation to the world of work, counseling, testing, employability assessment, job development, job search, on-the-job training, classroom training and basic skills. Some services may be limited due to funding level and/or geographic area.

Supportive Services- includes child care, transportation assistance and needs based payments for eligible customers. All services are provided with the expectations that customers are preparing to enter full time, unsubsidized employment.

Note: Supportive payments made by WIA to customers are nontaxable and are not considered for Unemployment Insurance benefits.
